The deadline for a consultation asking people what they think of closing ticket office windows, including at Exmouth railway station, was extended to 1 September, and so is now closed. It comes as part of plans to close hundreds of ticket offices in England over the next three years as more fares are paid digitally.
At Exmouth railway station, 28 per cent of tickets were sold at the ticket office window, 30.8 per cent at the ticket vending machine, and 41.2 per cent booked online in the 2022/23 financial year.
Although it is too late to take part now, the contact details were Transport Focus by email TicketOffice.GWR@transportfocus.org.uk or Freepost: RTEH-XAGE-BYKZ, Transport Focus, PO Box 5594, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 9PZ.
More details are on the Exmouth Nub News website at Ticket office article (https://exmouth.nub.news/news/local-news/exmouth-deadline-extended-for-railway-station-ticket-office-closure-consultation-193558) and at Ticket office consultation (https://www.transportfocus.org.uk/train-station-ticket-office-consultation/)
In addition, there is still a petition which you can sign entitled ‘Require train operators keep ticket offices and platform staff at train stations’. This says ‘We want the Government to require train operators keep ticket offices and platform staff at train stations, to help maintain health and safety standards and customer information.’ If you wish to sign it, the link to it on the UK Government and Parliament website is Ticket office petition (https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/636542)
